April 16--PELLA -- The top three teams in the Pella Invitational at Bos Landen Golf Course were separated by just four strokes on Friday.
The Prairie City-Monroe boys finished in third place but were the only Class 2A team in the top four positions.
Class 3A Pella won its home meet with a 337, while 3A Washington was next at 339.
The Mustangs shot a 341, and senior Dayton Boell finished third overall with an 81.
Senior Noah Lanphier carded an 84, junior Reed Worth shot an 87 and senior Elijah Sperfslage finished as the final counting scorer with an 89.
The two non-counting scores came from junior Andrew Van Ryswyk and senior Jackson Thomas, who turned in a 90 and 92, respectively.
Grinnell's Lucas Scherf won medalist honors with a 73. Pella's Trey Wood was three shots better than Boell in second as he turned in a 78.
The Mustangs were scheduled to play at West Marshall on Monday but that tournament has been canceled.
PCM girls lose to 4A Ames
AMES -- The PCM girls played on a tough course and against a 4A squad, but the Mustangs held their own during head-to-head dual with Ames on Thursday.
The Mustangs shot a 216, falling to the Little Cyclones by six strokes at Veenker Memorial Golf Course.
PCM picked up this meet after its home dual against Pleasantville was canceled and won't be made up.
"The course was a lot longer and had tough greens," PCM girls coach Tony Ford said. "I was proud of the team for grinding and taking on the challenge."
Senior Sabrina Reed claimed runner-up medalist honors with a 50. Senior Madeline Mitchell shot a 51, sophomore Gabbi Van Baale carded a personal-best 56 and junior Allison Wood turned in a 59.
Sophomores Alexis and Brooke Dross both finished with non-counting 64s. Junior Mack Bussan turned in a 63 as a junior varsity golfer.
Ames freshman Megan Riesselman won medalist honors with a 49. Freshman Taylor Balsley shot a 50.
The Mustang girls play in the Bondurant-Farrar Invitational at 2 p.m. Monday at Terrace Hills Golf Course.
