Local Report: Central Washington's Braun, Smith named all-region baseball

Yakima Herald-Republic, Wash. — Yakima Herald-Republic, Wash.

May 17--YAKIMA, Wash. -- Central Washington University baseball players Dustin Braun and James Smith III were were named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association All-West Region team on Wednesday.

Braun was the first team designated hitter, with Smith a second team outfielder.

Braun hit .379 with six home runs, 41 RBI, while slugging .528 with an on-base percentage of .427.

Smith, who was earlier named the GNAC player of the year, hit .386 with 12 homers and 52 RBI, with a slugging percentage of .693 and an OBP of .466.

COLLEGE SOFTBALL

Egbert all-West Region

Central Washington third baseman Savannah Egbert was named to the Division II Conference Commissioners Association Softball All-West Region second team earlier this week.

Egbert helped the Wildcats earn a share of the GNAC regular-season title, finishing second in the conference with a a .453 average. She also led the GNAC with 33 stolen bases and ranked 33rd in Division II averaging 0.64 stolen bases per game.

She was one of four GNAC players on the team, with Montana State Billings' Heather Tracy and Cameron Cassinelli named to the first team, and Western Oregon's Ryanne Huffman joining Egbert on the second team.\

HIGH SCHOOL GOLF

Crimp, Baum 2-3 in CWAC district

SUNNYSIDE -- Ellensburg's Kathryn Crimp and East Valley's Morgan Baum finished second and third, respectively, a stroke apart at Tuesday's CWAC district at Black Rock Creek Golf Course.

Ephrata's Kenedee Peters earned medalist honors with an even-par 72.

Crimp was second with a round of 83 and Baum placed third with 84.

The top 15 placers qualified for the 2A state tournament at Horn Rapids in Richland, where Ellensburg and Selah will have three qualifiers each.

Medalist: Kenedee Peters (Eph) 72. At Black Rock Creek, par 72.

Local state qualifiers: 2, Kathryn Crimp (Ell) 83; 3, Morgan Baum (EV) 84; 4, Kali Jones (Ell) 89; 5, Maddie Douglas (Ell) 94; 9, Jade Wold (Se) 105; 12, Piper Lukas (Se) 106; 13, Jessica Contreras (Pro), Gabby Record (Se), Whila Ray (Wap) 108.
